NSRI Richards Bay duty coxswain Jacques Kruger received the call and immediately launched the sea rescue craft Spirit of Richards Bay, and was accompanied by a Meditrax paramedic.

On arrival, the 23-year-old patient was transferred onto the NSRI rescue craft and his wound re-dressed.

He was then transferred to the NSRI base and then on to hospital by ambulance in a stable condition, for further treatment.
