Six die in flood waters

District Director of Education says principals should take precautionary measures during extreme weather conditions

SIX people are confirmed to have drowned during the torrential downpours in the region last week.

Of the six confirmed deaths related to the flash floods last week, five were schoolchildren, and two were siblings aged just eight and ten years of age.

The sixth victim drowned while attempting to evade field rangers in the iSimamgaliso Wetland Park.

Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife spokesperson Musa Mntambo, said the deceased was one of two people who were illegally harvesting Thombothi trees when they saw field rangers, and fled.
