Life sentence for rapist and murderer
The court heard that the man was in a relationship with the girl's mother for eight years and they lived together

KZN Director of Public Prosecution, Advocate Elaine Zungu, has welcomed the life sentence for Nongoma convicted rapist and murderer Thokozani Dlamini.
Dlamini was convicted and sentenced in the Pietermaritzburg High Court last Thursday for raping and killing his girlfriend’s 9-year-old daughter in the Efefe area in Nongoma in January.

‘He was no doubt a father figure in the child’s life. The fact that the accused pleaded guilty does not diminish his actions,’ said Zungu.
The court heard that Dlamini was in a relationship with the girl’s mother for eight years and they lived together.
On the day of the incident, Dlamini was returning from a funeral at a nearby homestead when he encountered the girl who was on her way to the shop.
He lured her to an abandoned house where he raped and strangled her.
He then dumped her body in a pit toilet, and it was found a week later.
In his plea, Dlamini said he strangled the child because he feared she would report him to her mother.
