‘Red Beast’ title fight postponed

This is the second postponement of the SA heavyweight title fight this year, owing to Covid-19 and related regulations

JOSH ‘Red Beast’ Pretorius, Zululand’s own professional heavyweight boxer, will have to wait a little longer to fight Tian Fick for the SA heavyweight title as Friday’s contest has been postponed.

The announcement came today (Tuesday), just hours before the Red Beast and his contingent were due to board their flight to Cape Town.

The postponement comes in the wake of a dispute between Boxing South Africa (BSA) and the promoter, regarding Covid-19 restrictions and bio bubble requirements.

According to Team Red Beast, an application was brought to reduce the bio bubble requirements to 72 hours, but the resolution was not finalised in time.

This is the second time the beast has had to endure a postponement of the SA heavyweight title fight, after lockdown put an end to his hopes of fighting for the title earlier in the year.

The show will go on, and is now expected to be held in early December, but the date will be officially confirmed in the coming days.

The SA heavyweight title became vacant after Ruaan Visser was last year stripped of his belt after being found guilty of doping.
