Summer security tips brought to you by Nite Owl Security

Nite Owl Security cares for its clients and their safety. The local security provider shares the following safety tips ahead of the festive season:

  1. Do not advertise your whereabouts and travel plans on social media. Criminals will know when your property is vulnerable.
  2. Inform your security provider about your holiday plans. Ensure that all your contact details in the control room are updated prior to leaving on holiday.
  3. When going away, leave a spare set of keys with a responsible person to ensure entry in event of emergency and power failures. Ensure your temporary key holder is listed in the control room in your absence.
  4. Ensure that all secondary users of security systems have been given the ‘challenge code’ in your absence.
  5. Test your alarm system with the control room to make sure it works.
  6. Show visitors where panic buttons are, and how to use them in case of emergency.
  7. Make sure there are no tools such as spades, picks and forks, lying around the property.
  8. Each night before going to bed, make sure all house keys are accounted for and all doors are locked. Keep a phone on charge and a panic button nearby. If possible, keep a small dog inside the house with you.
  9. If you do hear a noise outside, don’t go out to see what it is – contact your armed response to do a patrol.
  10. Make sure that Christmas decorations do not block your alarm devices.
  11. Do not advertise new purchases of electronics by leaving the empty boxes out in the open.
  12. Be vigilant when driving and careful when entering or leaving premises.
