THE Rugby World Cup, which kicked off on Friday with hosts France coming up against New Zealand, lends itself to a serious buzz of excitement in countries that are obsessed with the sport.

South Africans are one of those rugby-obsessed nations, and supporters wait with bated breath for our country’s first game – against Scotland on Sunday, 10 September.

South Africa is fifth in the rankings of the most rugby-crazed nations, and here are the others making up the rest of the top 10.

Papua New Guinea takes first place, followed by Fiji and Ireland in second and third, New Zealand in fourth ahead of South Africa; the UK slinks into sixth spot, with France, Namibia and Australia coming in at seventh, eighth and ninth respectively, while Sri Lanka rounds out the top 10.
