Police issue warning after Richards Bay cyclists robbed

Cyclists robbed while riding off-road

RICHARDS Bay police are warning cyclists to be alert when using dirt roads and greenbelts for training or leisure rides after two people were robbed of their bicycles, cellphones, sport equipment and tracking devices last week.

Richards Bay SAPS spokesperson Captain Debbie Ferreira said the complainants were cycling behind Kannakronkel street in Veldenvlei when they were accosted by two suspects who pushed them off their bicycles, grabbed their belongings and fled.

“This is a popular route that many cyclists use, and we encourage them to ride in groups and exercise extra safety measures where possible,” said Ferreira.
