WATCH: Hopeful Unizulu students queue for late registration at Richards Bay campus
This after the registration process for first-year students closed on Friday.
Hundreds of walk-in students spent Monday queuing outside the University of Zululand (Unizulu) Richards Bay campus in the hopes of securing late registration for 2023 study.
This after the registration process for first-year students closed on Friday.
Candidates began gathering outside the institution from the early hours of the morning, while returning students also arrived for their registration, scheduled for this week.
The line of applicants extended from the main campus gate and around the bend, all the way to the back of Boardwalk Inkwazi Shopping Centre.
Cent Circle, which leads to campus, was jam-packed with vehicles as well as students camping on the sidewalk and roadside in an attempt to reach the main gate and file their applications.
According to Unizulu spokesperson Gcina Nhleko, registration for first-year students was held from 30 January to 3 February, but there was an influx of walk-ins who gathered on Monday to attempt late registration.
“Out of desperation, walk-ins queued outside campus to register, and we have noted the same situation at the main campus in KwaDlangezwa,” she said.
“We can assist only in those faculties that still have space available, but we cannot guarantee any applications.”
Meanwhile, local entrepreneurs saw an opportunity to set up food and beverage stalls to sell refreshments to the masses.
