Richards Bay feeding scheme needs financial boost

Call to communities to support the Richards Bay feeding programme, which provides over 500 meals per week.

As the need for food relief continues to grow, the Shabach Cares NPO in Richards Bay is calling on businesses, organisations and the public to support its feeding programme, which provides over 500 meals per week.

Founder Vee Yankasamy said the organisation has become a vital source of support for vulnerable families and individuals.

As the cost of living continues to escalate, for citizens facing unemployment, and even some experiencing homelessness, the hot meals served by the NPO every Wednesday and Friday in Brackenham and Aquadene have become a lifeline for many.

Yankasamy added that the feeding scheme has continued as a result of weekly contributions from donors and business, of groceries or cash.

Beyond providing nourishment, the initiative offers hope, dignity and compassion to those who find themselves in difficult circumstances.

Yankasamy expressed gratitude to the volunteers who prepare the meals weekly, as it has enabled the programme to continue making a meaningful impact in the community.

“Our mission is to fight hunger, support vulnerable families and ensure no one has to go to bed hungry,” said Yankasamy.

“Every meal we serve represents hope for someone in need, and we could not do this without the support of our community.

“Beyond providing nourishment, the initiative offers hope, dignity and compassion to those who find themselves in difficult times.

“As the need continues to grow, other services of our NPO, such as counselling, providing clothing and essentials, also helps those in need.”

As the community faces increasing economic challenges, Shabach Cares hopes more residents will join hands to make a lasting difference.

“We are appealing for donations of groceries to prepare our hot meals. Donations can be dropped off at 60 Gibbum Grove,” she said.
