City of uMhlathuze to temporarily shut down Mzingazi Waterworks

This is to replace a portion of the main water line that burst in the servitude behind Mkhulu Crescent in Arboretum

Richards Bay residents may experience low water pressure when the City of uMhlathuze shuts down the Mzingazi Water Treatment Works for 24 hours.

The municipality will implement the shutdown from 8am tomorrow (Wednesday) until 8am on Thursday (2 March).

This is to replace a portion of the main water line that burst in the servitude behind Mkhulu Crescent in Arboretum.

While a complete water outage is not anticipated in Richards Bay, uMhlathuze Ward 3 Councillor Henning de Wet encouraged residents to use water sparingly during this time and store water as a precaution for possible low pressure.

“This is a normal occurrence during pipe replacement projects, as the water supply from the Mzingazi Water Treatment Works to the reservoirs needs to be temporarily shut off to allow for the old pipes to be removed and new ones to be installed,” said De Wet.

“Once the project is complete, the water pressure will return to normal.

“Measures are in place to get the reservoir level to 90% before the shut down – which will ensure the Richards Bay water supply is not entirely compromised,” he said.
