WATCH: Coal trucks collide on N2 near Empangeni

Traffic on the N2 was reduced to a crawl this afternoon (Tuesday) after two coal-carrying side-tipper trucks collided.

Motorists travelling south were redirected onto the R102, while the northbound carriageway was free-flowing albeit slowly.

According to one of the truck drivers queued alongside the N2, the accident was caused by impatience and non-adherence to the road rules by drivers flocking to the Port of Richards Bay to off-load coal for export.

Emergency services rushed to the scene when two coal trucks collided with one another on the N2 in Richards Bay

City of uMhlathuze traffic officers were on scene directing traffic and monitoring the situation, while KwaZulu Private Ambulance paramedics were on hand for any possible injuries, although it was reported that there were none.
