WATCH: Empangeni cyclists clean up the city

Bradley Saunders mobilised cyclists to come out with their gardening tools for a major clean-up

Empangeni’s Cane Rats MTB Cycling Club members rolled up their sleeves and stepped where no municipal cleaning service has gone in a while.

Having witnessed the littering and overgrown grass and trees become an obstruction to their Monday cycling practice, Bradley Saunders mobilised members to come out with their gardening tools for a major clean-up.

“I organised a big clean-up of the bridge with the yellow pipe on Louis Botha Avenue,” said Saunders.

“This is where we meet every Monday afternoon for a cycle through the forest.”

Saunders thanked all who turned out to help with the clean-up operation, including Chris Maitland, Dougie Powell, Philip Walsh, Stuart Kayhards, Warren Loffler, Marius Loots and Peter Kok.

“This is what ubuntu looks like; some of the people who assisted with our clean-up are not even part of the Cane Rats club,” said Saunders.
