WATCH: Substation explodes, plunges parts of Meerensee into darkness
The roads around the affected substation are without power
A mini-substation in Meerensee exploded a short while ago, causing parts of the Richards Bay suburb to lose power amid ongoing scheduled maintenance also affecting some areas.
The substation situated at the corner of Davidson Lane and Van Rooyenweg burnt out just after 1.30pm today (Thursday), with residents reporting having heard a loud bang.
The roads around the affected substation, including Davidson Lane, Van Rooyenweg, Launder Lane and others, are without power.
According to Ward 2 Councillor Christo Botha’s WhatsApp broadcast list, City of uMhlathuze electrical engineers are en route to investigate and carry out the necessary repairs.
