‘Foiled hit’ case postponed again
The defence in the trial of the foiled alleged hit postponed

The defence in the trial of the foiled alleged hit on former Mtubatuba mayor Thobelani Verus Ngcamphalala has said the State’s repeated postponements of the matter are unfair to the accused.
The matter was on Wednesday postponed at the Mtubatuba Regional Court to 13 April for the State witness Nhlanhla Maseko to continue with his testimony.

The defence for the accused, Thokozani Zakhele Dlamini (32), said it is ‘clearly’ understandable that Maseko was not fit to continue with his testimony but the State’s proposed postponement date of 10 May was unfair to the accused who has been ‘languishing behind bars for a long period of time’.
“We are not going forward with this matter, but going back a number of steps,” said the defence, adding it would have been better if the accused was out on bail.
Dlamini, the first accused in the matter, has pleaded not guilty to a count of conspiracy to commit murder and one of corruption.
He faces the corruption charge after he allegedly offered Maseko, the second accused who turned State witness, money to give false testimony in court.
The third accused, Zakhele Nelson Khanyile, died. Khanyile was fatally gunned down in a drive-by shooting in Macekane on 1 February.
