Apply for 2024 school admissions early, parents and guardians urged

Key focus on learners seeking space in grades 1 and 8, which are entry grades

In an effort to reduce long queues at schools in January, the KZN Department of Education has pleaded with parents and guardians to register their children early for the 2024 academic year.

This as admissions for next year have officially opened, with key focus on learners seeking space in grades
1 and 8, which are entry grades.

The closing date for admissions is 30 September.

“We urge parents or guardians to co-operate with the department and heed this call so that on the first day of the 2024 academic year, schools can focus on teaching and learning and not on unnecessary administrative duties pertaining to learner admission,” said MEC Mbali Frazer.

Parents who want to transfer learners to other grades from one school to another, are also encouraged to do so as soon as possible.

The department said the only transfer applications that would be considered after the closing date are those for learners whose parents would have been transferred by their employers from 1 October onwards.

“They must also produce evidence of such a transfer,” said Frazer.

She said adherence to the admission deadline will allow the department ‘to deal with all the appeals and place those learners, who would have applied, but failed to secure places.’
