Roll up your sleeves and laundry of love

Peg your laundry of love on the ZO charity lines in Empangeni and Richards Bay on 18 July

The ZO’s 10th Hang out with Madiba charity initiative invites the community to donate the gift of life – a pint of blood – at the SANBS mobile blood clinic stationed at the Zululand Observer Empangeni offices on Madiba Day.

The newspaper is again calling on the community to drop off winter woollies and food items on Tuesday, 18 July.

Washing lines will be erected in front of the newspaper’s offices in Empangeni (3 Baines Road) and in the open space between the Civic Centre and East Central Arterial in Richards Bay.

All you need to do is spend 67 minutes of your time collecting these items from your home and making a charitable delivery at the lines, or volunteer some time at our lines between 7.30am and 12 noon.

Volunteers will be on hand to accept laundered used or new clothing and blankets, as well as non-perishable food items to assist NPOs and vulnerable members of the community.

The washed laundry of love collected on the day will be distributed via the ZO’s charity arm Dice (Do I Care Enough?) to needy organisations and communities.

The community can also help to boost the region’s low blood stock supply by spending their 67 minutes donating blood at the SANBS mobile clinic stationed at the ZO Empangeni office.

This year, the ZO has again partnered with the City of uMhlathuze, and Rotary Clubs of Empangeni and Richards Bay to ensure Zululanders are part of this philanthropic effort aimed at helping the destitute.

Service clubs, schoolchildren and businesses are encouraged to collect clothing, blankets and food items.

There is nothing stopping companies, institutions and schools from erecting their own charity lines on the day.

During this time when many families are struggling financially and facing unemployment, the provision of food, winter clothing and blankets has never been more needed.

Unable to get to our charity line on the day? Call Dave Savides on 060 9719249 or Karen Dalton on 035 7990500 or email dice@zob.co.za
