WATCH: Heavy rain, strong winds lash Richards Bay and surrounds
This cold front was followed by a blast of sub-polar icy winds
Zululanders awoke this morning (Monday) to strong winds, heavy rain and bitterly cold temperatures as forecast by the SA Weather Service (SAWS) late last week.
This as parts of the province, including Howick, Hilton and Nottingham Road experienced snow from Sunday afternoon.
The cold weather is the result of a massive cold front that made landfall in the Western Cape on Friday, fanning out across the country over the weekend.
This cold front was followed by a blast of sub-polar icy winds, responsible for the worst of the plummeting temperatures.
After a balmy Saturday, the weather turned on Sunday, with light rain and winds in the greater Zululand region, and strengthening during Sunday night.
The bad weather is set to last the remainder of today and into tomorrow.
