Looted eSikhaleni Mall back in business

Mall reopens two years after devastating 2021 civil unrest

It’s official – eSikhaleni Mall is back in business.

Thousands of residents took advantage of low prices on Tuesday after the shopping centre was officially reopened, more than two years after being vandalised and looted.

In July 2021, the structure was torched and vandalised by angry looters during the civil uprising that spread through the region and province.

The mall reopens a few months after eSikhaleni Plaza, which suffered a similar fate, reopened in April.

Mall owners confirmed that it’s ‘business as usual’, and welcomed the shoppers.
