Suspects in court for fatal filling station shooting in Mtubatuba

The provisional postponement was ordered by the Mtubatuba District Court

The suspects arrested in connection with last year’s fatal shooting at a Mtuba petrol station will return to court on 13 September.

The provisional postponement was ordered by the Mtubatuba District Court on Tuesday for the possible addition of two more suspects.

Mandlenkosi Mjebhula Khuzwayo-Khanyile and Thokozani Nhlanhla Ngubane initially appeared before the presiding officer.

Two further suspects, Mlungisi Mncwango and Nkosibeyiphika Elijah Mkhwanazi, will possibly be added to this matter once their bail application at KwaMsane Magistrate’s Court has been finalised.

Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda confirmed these four suspects, aged between 28 and 55, were arrested in connection with the 24 August 2022 murder of Siyabonga Mthiyane, which shook the local community.

At their Monday court appearance, Mncwango and Mkhwanazi faced a combined seven charges including murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, possession of firearm, and possession of ammunition.

The defence intends to make a bail application once accused three and four have been added.
