Lovers nailed for firearm

They were remanded in police custody pending police investigation

Police quickly reacted to information of a man discharging a firearm inside a minibus taxi at the Ncemane area in Hluhluwe on Friday.
They followed the lead but the suspect was not found at the scene.

According to uMkhanyakude Cluster police spokesperson, Captain Sibusiso Mkhize, police again received information on where to find the suspect.

“Police searched a certain homestead and found a 23-year-old woman sleeping and in possession of a pistol with seven live rounds of ammunition.

“The police asked for the firearm licence or permit to possess the firearm and ammunition. She was unable to produce them and was then arrested.

“After a while, a male came to the police station and introduced himself as the boyfriend (27) of the suspect and further stated that the firearm belonged to him.

“He was then arrested immediately. Both suspects were charged for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition and they appeared before the Mtubatuba Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

They were remanded in police custody pending police investigation,” Mkhize said

The pair is expected to reappear at the same court on Thursday for a formal bail application.
