Have you renewed your motor vehicle licence?

Covid-related extensions have led to a high number of renewals falling from August to December

With more than a million vehicle licences up for renewal come month end, motorists who fall into this category are urged to renew theirs.

The high number of licences – 1 049 412 – due for renewal at the end of September is owing to the renewal extensions granted during the Covid-19 period.

“Numerous extensions to the motor vehicle licence expiry date, granted during the Covid-19 period, have resulted in a high number of renewals falling within the months of August, September, October, November and December,” said the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) in a statement.

Email and SMS reminders are sent to owners on a monthly basis.

Motorists are also encouraged to update their email and telephone contact details at online.natis.gov.za to receive the reminders.

“Owners can renew on the same portal and have their motor vehicle licences delivered within three to five days.”

Those who have not yet registered can do so on the portal, while those who have can log in and finalise the renewal in under 10 minutes.
