Be an angel in a sick child’s life

Zululanders are urged to support this sweet cause

Calling all cupcake angels!

It’s time to dust off your cake mixer, don your apron, and haul out the oven mitts for the annual Cupcakes of Hope fundraiser for children suffering from cancer.

Alternatively, the local Cupcakes of Hope branch has put out a mayday for donations of ingredients so their cupcake angels can bake up a storm.

Cupcakes will be on sale on National Cupcake Day (30 September) at Boardwalk Inkwazi Shopping Centre on the lower level outside H&M.

Melanie Botha will be stationed in Meerensee.

Every year, cupcakes are sold on National Cupcake Day in support of International Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Under the theme ‘Bake hope, sprinkle joy’, Zululanders are urged to support this sweet cause in whatever way possible.

Funds raised from cupcake sales go towards supporting children battling cancer, and their families, assisting with food, nappies, transportation expenses, and medical necessities like wheelchairs and prosthetics.

Cupcakes of Hope

Since the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, the need for medical assistance has increased fourfold. From the beginning of 2022 to date, the organisation has assisted with an average of 235 monthly financial requests from 20 hospitals across the country.

In 2022 alone, they addressed 2 749 financial requests and delivered 2 660 activity care bags to patients in 20 paediatric oncology wards at key medical facilities nationwide.

Weekly payments are made by Cupcakes of Hope towards patients’ medical bills, otherwise sooner if a medical emergency arises.
