Thought-provoking theatre piece depicts realities of drug abuse

A thought-provoking theatre production at Unizulu

The Critical but Stable cast shone a light on matters relating to whoonga addiction when they stepped up on stage for a three-day run at the Unizulu chapel last week.

The thought-provoking theatre production kicked off on Monday and ran until Wednesday, and served the audience a killer concept focusing on street kid addicts.

Written, directed and produced by Linda Magubane, the piece not only showcased the dangers of whoonga abuse, but also exposed the raw truth behind the many who benefit from their addiction.

“Whoonga is manufactured by ordinary people living in society.

“Sellers are also everyday individuals who make a fortune from these guys’ addictions, but society never focuses on them.

“It’s a business to many people and they know the effect of it but continue to sell. Some have a good relationship with the police to avoid being caught,” said Linda Magubane.

The show was attended by hundreds of students who enjoyed the storyline and drama. It featured Isaac Gumede, Vela Shezi, Qondani Delwa, Relebohile Machili, Xolani Duma and Sbonelo Gumede.

This three-day production hit the stage after the group had finished their taxi rank tour in Richards Bay, Empangeni and Dlangezwa.
