To have and not to hold?

Some couples believe sharing a bedroom is killing the romance

Does absence make the heart grow fonder?

Forget using the spare bedroom as a ‘dog box’, some couples believe sharing a bedroom is killing the romance.

Some of the apparent benefits of having your bedroom include:

• You will not have to pick up after your partner; if they are messy that is their choice
• Better quality sleep; this includes no fighting over the covers and no dealing with a snoring spouse
• You get to read, watch and scroll on your phone for as long as you like
• Increased sexual desire
• More time for yourself
• It brings back the element of dating, which is often lost in long-term relationships.

While love and marriage do not come with a blueprint, it is agreed that every couple should come up with a formula that works for them.

If you or your partner are thinking of trying the separate room method, it is advised to start slowly.

Try sleeping apart for one night a week and allow them to be honest about how sleeping alone made them feel.
