FACES breaks borders to facilitate dialogue

Help Zululand production get to Zimbabwe

Just months after winning the Standard Bank Standing Ovation award at the National Arts Festival, home-grown theatre production FACES: A Woman with Emotional Scars, is going to Zimbabwe.

The thought-provoking one-woman show starring Ntandoyenkosi Bhengu will be showcased at the One Hander International Theatre Festival to be held at the Jasen Mphepo Little Theatre in Harare on Wednesday, 25 October.

This well-penned and hard-hitting theatre production is written and produced by former lecturer and now director at refined Image Studio, Gift Marovatsanga and directed by lecturer Masedi Manenye.

It is a story about a woman with such issues as identity, injustice and the state of humanity.

The piece uncompromisingly reveals unpalatable facts about rape, physical and emotional abuse, as well as key issues that lie at the centre of all human existence.

It plays on the notion of identity and change at its core, as well as questions every individual about what and how they construct their true identity.

Help them get there

The trio needs your help to get to Harare.

“We need support to cover transport, accommodation and sustenance for our team of three that will be travelling to participate at this very important event.

“We will provide a vehicle and all the other material needed for the project’s success. The hosts are only providing accommodation for one night for one performing artist, so we will need to cater for the whole team’s accommodation and sustenance for their week’s stay in Harare.

“We are committed to staging the production and facilitating dialogue and training for local youths in Empangeni upon their return from the festival and to facilitate personal mastery and people development workshops for selected teams at no cost. We are also committed to working with youths needing skills development,” said Marovatsanga.
