They were arrested as part of a multi-disciplinary operation in the area

Fifteen illegal immigrants arrested in Mkhuze on Sunday will be deported to their respective countries.

They were arrested as part of a multi-disciplinary operation in the area, for contravention of the Immigration Act.

“The operation was focused on recovering drugs, illegal firearms, dangerous weapons, counterfeit goods, contravention of the Immigration Act, suspect raiding, and compliance inspections of liquor outlets,” said uMkhanyakude SAPS spokesperson Sbusiso Mkhize.

“During the operation at Mlingo Village, Thembalethu and Lindelani areas, 15 immigrants failed to produce valid passports and permits when asked to do so.

“All suspects were charged for contravention of the Immigration Act and appeared before Ubombo Magistrate’s Court on Monday. The suspects were remanded in custody for deportation to their respective countries,” said Mkhize.

The acting district SAPS commissioner, Brigadier Mandla Mhlongo applauded the police for the arrests and further appreciated the commitment of all law enforcement agencies in fighting crime in uMkhanyakude.
