WATCH: Ngwelezana home destroyed in blaze
The preliminary assessment suspects there was an electrical appliance that ignited
Only a bin of laundry and a mattress could be salvaged by the time City of uMhlathuze firefighters arrived at the scene of a house fire in Ngwelezana on Wednesday.
According to a neighbour who was first to arrive at the Ntuli homestead, they were not able to gain entry as the house was locked.
He said, luckily there was nobody inside the house, which was destroyed by the blaze.
Speaking after visiting the scene, Ward 24 Councillor Sibonelo Mthalane said the cause of the fire was under investigation.
“The preliminary assessment suspects there was an electrical appliance that ignited, but we will be waiting for the investigation.
“The family will need necessities, including food and blankets. The damage was intensive,” said Mthalane.
