Thieves devise new ‘breaking and entering’ method

This trend has been prominent in the Richards Bay CBD

The old adage ‘no rest for the wicked’ cannot be more true, as thieves appear to come up with new devious ways of carrying out their crimes on a daily basis.

With this in mind, these criminal masterminds have devised a new trend whereby they gain illegal access into people’s homes and businesses through the roof.

“We have received recent reports indicating thieves are breaking in via roofs to gain access to business premises.

These incidents generally occur during the night and early hours of the morning.

“This trend has been prominent in the CBD, with three incidents reported over the last week alone,” explained Anbin Govender, Fidelity ADT Richards Bay branch manager.

“Businesses are urged to remain vigilant and to consider installing roof passives or early warning systems such as outdoor beams as an additional security measure.

“In addition, they are encouraged to report any suspicious activity immediately to the local SAPS or their private security company,” said Govender.
