The sudden drop-off on the ocean floor, plus numerous big holes in the sand catch bathers unawares as suddenly it is too deep to stand, and those who are unable to swim find themselves in trouble

Tragedy struck late Thursday afternoon when a 12-year-old girl drowned at the jetski section of the Bay Hall beach in Richards Bay.
