Renowned local poet dies

Condolences are pouring in as South Africans mourn the death of poet, Mxolisi Mtshali (39), known for his poem ‘Zulu love letter’.

The Nongoma-born poet died in hospital yesterday following a short illness.

His death is a second blow to the KZN poetry society following the tragic death of Sicelo Mpungose who died in a car accident last Sunday.

Mtshali will be remembered for activating poetry within the province, and for creating platforms for other poets through Poet in a Suit.

Since his passing, social media platforms have been awash with messages from fellow poets, comedians, and fans expressing their loss.
