One critically injured patient was airlifted to hospital

The festive season got off on a sombre note for the families of four people who tragically lost their lives in an accident on Saturday morning.

The collision occurred at about 11am on the N2 southbound in the vicinity of Fairbreeze, and involved a truck and at least two light motor vehicles.

According to IPSS Medical Rescue, of the four fatally injured patients, two were in one vehicle and two were in another.

Paramedics worked to extricate the entrapped occupants from the wreckage.

Two seriously injured patients were transported by ambulance to hospital, while a critically injured patient was airlifted.

The N2 was closed to allow for the Netcare 911 helicopter to land.

The cause of the collision will be the subject of a police investigation.
