1960s best decade for Christmas movies

Fun, festive and at times feeble, everyone loves a good Christmas movie, but the results of this survey prove that quality trumps quantity every time...

Who doesn’t love a good Christmas movie?

These feel-good family films have a bit of everything – drama, love, heartbreak, family fun and comedy.

And they always end on a good note.

Intrigued as to what era produced the best Christmas movies, BestBettingSites.com looked into it, taking many factors into account, including the number of holiday film releases, average IMDb ratings, and count of IMDb votes from 1960 to 2022.

Here’s what their studies revealed:

Despite the release of just eight Christmas movies, the 1960s came out tops, with an average of 44 977 IMDb votes, an average IMDb rating of 7.63 and a final score of 7.6.

In second place was the ’80s, with 30 festive season movies released, an average of 56 076 IMDb votes, an average IMDb rating of 6.98 and a final score of 7.2.

Fast forward to the 2010s and the number of Christmas movie releases spiked from 69 in the 2000s to a whopping 360.

The 2020s saw 220 Christmas movies released, with a measly average of 2 804 IMDb votes, a 5.98 average IMDb rating and a final score of just 2.09.

This is proof that quality trumps quantity every time, and they just don’t make ’em like they used to.

Here is the table showing the full outcome:
