Severe weather warning for Zululand region

Scattered showers and thundershowers are expected

KZN disaster management teams are on high alert amid a severe weather warning for the Zululand, uMkhanyakude and uMzinyathi districts this (Monday) evening.

According to the South African Weather Service, scattered showers and thundershowers are expected with residents warned to be vigilant.

The warning comes as recovery efforts in some parts of the province where heavy downpours caused major infrastructure damage and resulted in loss of lives.

“The weather conditions bring with them a heightened risk of heavy downpours that could lead to localised flooding.

“Residents and commuters in the affected areas are recommended to exercise caution and stay informed about the evolving weather situation.

“It is crucial to be prepared for sudden changes in weather conditions and to adhere to any official instructions issued by local authorities.

Public urged to take the following precautions:
• Stay Informed: Keep updated on weather forecasts through reliable sources such as the South African Weather Service or news platforms.
• Travel Safely: If driving, be cautious of wet and slippery roads. Avoid low-lying areas and areas prone to flooding.
• Do not cross flooded walkways and bridges: seek alternative routes or delay any travel.
