Crime crackdown yields success in Richards Bay

Joint law enforcement operation in Richards Bay CBD leads to numerous arrests

A joint operation by city and district task teams on Thursday led to numerous arrests for contravention of the Immigration Act, possession of suspected stolen property, and dangerous weapons.

The operation involved King Cetshwayo District SAPS, City of uMhlathuze Traffic Department and Department of Home Affairs officials.

Law enforcement officers took to the streets in Richards Bay CBD and surrounding areas, with the visible policing efforts resulting in three illegal immigrants being apprehended and a business being shut down.

In addition, one suspect was apprehended for possession of stolen property and another for possession of a dangerous weapon and house break-in implements.

According to King Cetshwayo Cluster spokesperson Captain Siyanda Shangase, 11 traffic violation fines were issued, 80 people and 28 vehicles were searched.

The operation is part of crime fighting initiatives in the CBD and surrounding areas, and to increase law enforcement visibility.
