Richards Bay gas terminal poised to make ‘substantial economic impact’
Plans discussed for liquefied natural gas terminal at Port of Richards Bay

Plans for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Richards Bay were among the upcoming capital projects discussed when KZN Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube engaged with executives of Transnet Pipelines (TPL) last week.
This was ahead of the State of the Province Address (SOPA), delivered by the premier on Wednesday.
Dube-Ncube met with TPL acting chief executive Sibongiseni Khathi, who counted the Richards Bay LNG terminal as one of the projects poised to make a substantial economic impact in the province.
He further detailed various challenges, including fuel theft from the TPL pipelines and encroachments along the pipeline servitude.
In response, the premier committed to implementing effective measures to address the challenges faced by the organisation.
“We have a vested interest in the resolution of these challenges because we appreciate that the province’s economic performance – which translates to job creation – is determined by how well strategic entities like TPL operate,” she said.
