1 dead in R34/R66 truck accident

KwaZulu Private Ambulance has confirmed one fatality in this morning’s (Monday) truck collision on the R34/R66 during which both heavy-duty vehicles burst into flames.

The accident occurred just after 7am in the Mpungamhlophe area.

“When emergency services arrived, they found that two trucks had been involved in a head-on collision and burst into flames,” said KwaZulu Private spokesperson Chantelle Botha.

“Paramedics quickly assessed the scene and found that one patient had succumbed to their injuries before emergency services could arrive.”

As at 9.50am, rescue services were still on scene using specialised rescue equipment to gain access to another occupant, who was suspected to be trapped in the wreckage.

“The condition of the patient is unknown at this time,” said Botha.
