How to help Mtubatuba fire-ravaged community market vendors

It will take assistance from community member to restore the livelihoods of the Zamimpilo market sellers

Members of the community are called on to help the market sellers of Zamimpilo rebuild their livelihoods after fire destroyed the facility along the N2 on Wednesday.

The women who sell their woven wares and fruit at Zamimpilo rely on revenue from the market as a source of income, not only for themselves, but also to feed their families.

Zululanders involved in helping these women get back on their feet have put out a plea for gently-used clothing, non-perishable foods, blankets, and anything else they could use.

Fire broke out at Zamimpilo Market, in the eMfekayi area just north of Mtubatuba, at 5am on Wednesday after a generator reportedly exploded.

While uMkhanyakude District firefighters fought the blaze for three hours, much of the 160 sellers’ goods were destroyed, leaving them wondering where the money for theirs and their families’ next meal will come from.
