Police are working to rid the King Cetshwayo District of illegal firearms

With gun violence on the rise, police are working to rid the district of illegal firearms through their various operations.

In collaboration with local communities, Melmoth SAPS recovered numerous guns during their operation on Thursday.

This follows information received by the Crime Intelligence Unit which resulted in an operation with King Cetshwayo District’s Public Order Police (POP).

One man was arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearms.

On Saturday, a tip-off prompted a stop-and-search by the eShowe Crime Prevention Unit members, resulting in the arrest of a man.

A 9mm pistol loaded with ammunition was found concealed on his body.
