Murder suspect nabbed within 24 hours

A man accused of fatally shooting his friend on Friday was arrested within 24 hours and charged with murder and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The incident occurred in the Sigodiphola area in Nsuze under iLembe District and the suspect (23) was arrested by Nsuze SAPS in the Mathonsi area on Saturday.

iLembe Cluster police spokesperson Captain Alex Thomson said the suspect was caught with an illegal firearm and one live round of ammunition.

“The motive of the incident is still unknown but the investigation is under way. The suspect is due to appear in court soon,” said Thomson.

iLembe district commissioner Major General Anthony Gopaul commended police on their swift action in apprehending the murder suspect.

“Due to the members’ diligent efforts, the suspect was successfully arrested and an illegal firearm was recovered that could have possibly been used to commit other crimes. We will ensure the detectives work thoroughly on the case to ensure the perpetrator of this heinous act is convicted,” said Gopaul.
