Zululanders brace for disruptive rain

More wet weather on the way as the SA Weather Service issued a level 2 warning for disruptive rain for Zululand region

THE Zululand region has been placed under a level 2 weather warning for disruptive rain as the soaring temperatures from the weekend begin to ease.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued the alert earlier today (Monday), which is in place from 1pm until 11pm tomorrow night.

Areas included in the warning are Hlabisa, Hluhluwe, Jozini, Mandeni, Mthonjaneni, Mtubatuba, uMhlabuyalingana, uMhlathuze and uMlalazi.

Widespread thunder showers are expected across KwaZulu-Natal, with disruptive rain leading to localised flooding in places over the western, southern and eastern parts of the province, and along the south coast and adjacent interior tomorrow.

Impacts could include localised flooding of susceptible low-lying roads and bridges, informal settlements, and difficult driving conditions due to wet roads and poor visibility.

The SAWS advises residents of affected areas to avoid crossing rivers and swollen streams; relocate animals to higher ground; inside buildings, move valuables to a safe place above flood level, and take caution when travelling on roads as potholes may be filled with water and difficult to see.
