Residents urged to exercise caution as weather service issues New Year's Eve thunderstorm warning for KwaZulu-Natal

KwaZulu-Natal is set for heavy weather tomorrow (Tuesday) as the South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms across the province.

The warning is in place from 11am to 11pm, set to impact the whole province, with some areas to be affected more than others.

“Isolated to scattered thunder showers are expected over KZN tomorrow, with some expected to become severe over western parts of the province,” said SAWS.

“These may be accompanied by heavy downpours, strong damaging winds, excessive lightning and hail, which may result in localised impacts.”

The weather service went on to list potential impacts, which include:
• Possible heavy downpours may lead to localised flooding of susceptible roads and low-lying bridges

• Localised damage to formal and informal settlements and infrastructure

• Difficult driving conditions due to wet roads
