Disaster management have worked tirelessly since last Friday's storm that ravaged parts of the area

Nkandla Municipality and disaster management have worked tirelessly since last Friday’s storm that ravaged parts of the area, to provide much-needed relief.

According to a statement issued by the municipality, five wards were severely affected.

As of Sunday, disaster management teams were out assessing the damage in wards 1, 5 and 7.

It was reported that one resident drowned, while Ekhombe SAPS are leaving no stone unturned in their search for a teenage girl who drowned after being washed away by a swollen river.

The municipality is under immense pressure due to limited resources and funds, especially following the series of wildfires that occurred in May and October.

Always there to extend a helping hand, Gift of the Givers visited the affected rural villages to assess the situation to see how they could also help.

Working closely with the Nkandla municipal disaster management team, Gift of the Givers has been able to provide relief such as the distribution of hampers and blankets to those in need.
