Disruptive rain continues over north-eastern KZN

Zululand region placed under orange level 5 alert for disruptive rain

As Zululanders enjoy the welcome relief of rain after the weekend’s searing heat, there is more to come throughout today (Tuesday).

This as the SA Weather Service (SAWS) issued yet another warning for disruptive rain – this time an orange level 5 alert until 11pm tonight.

Affected areas are Hlabisa, Hluhluwe, Jozini, Mthonjaneni, Mtubatuba, Nongoma, Ulundi, uMhlabuyalingana, uMhlathuze, uMlalazi and Pongola.

“Widespread showers and thunder showers are expected across KZN. This will result in disruptive rain leading to localised flooding in the north-eastern interior and north coast [on Tuesday],” said the SAWS.

“Significant rains have already been observed and are expected to continue.”

Potential impacts include:
• Flooding of roads, bridges and settlements
• Danger to life (fast-flowing streams/deep water)
• Major disruption to traffic flow due to roads being flooded
• Sinkholes and rock falls
• Disruption to essential services, including water, electricity, communications.
