WATCH: Another electricity-related protest in Pongola

The protest action on the N2 once again brought the national freeway to a closure on Monday morning

RESIDENTS of Mlogo in Pongola embarked on a protest on Monday morning, demanding the restoration of electricity to their homes.

The aggrieved community members blocked the N2 with burning tyres, rocks and logs, forcing traffic from both directions to come to a standstill.

This follows violent protest action last week Tuesday when about 100 community members staged a strike in the Emandanyini area, with the same demand.

Last week’s protest ended in tragedy when Nokuthula Simelane (43) was hit by a car and died.

Pongola Mayor Bheki Thwala urged residents to avoid such demonstrations and encouraged them to rather use the proper channels to raise their grievances so they can be resolved amicably.
