Wife ‘cop killer’ accused gives tearless insincere howl

The murder trial of a KwaMbonambi warrant officer and his friend is ongoing at Mtubatuba High Court

The High Court sitting in Mtubatuba has heard that upon hearing the news that her husband had been murdered, accused one in the matter, Ntombizodwa Ntinga, gave a tearless, insincere howl which came to an abrupt end.

This from the investigating officer, Captain Qaphelani Mdluli, who told the court he was shocked to witness that Ntombizodwa, the wife of Nkosinathi Ntinga, who was murdered on 1 August 2023, had quickly accepted the situation and continued to relay what had transpired on the day of the robbery, kidnapping and eventual murders.

In the witness box this week, Mdluli acknowledged that people react differently to situations and behave in their own unique manner, but he had observed that accused one seemed detached as she relayed the occurrences of the day in question.

“It seemed as if she was talking about someone she was not married to,” Mdluli told the court, adding that, although Ntombizodwa was ‘screaming’, there were no tears in her eyes.

The court heard that the news of her husband’s murder was broken to accused one at around 2am, hours after the incident.

During cross-examination, accused one’s legal counsel to Mdluli said, “I don’t want to dwell much on the crying of accused number one because you yourself said people react differently.”

Accused one and co-accused Samkelo Mpanza face charges of murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and kidnapping.

Mpanza has confessed to robbery and kidnapping, and alleges he was not present when another suspect, Mira Khoza, who allegedly had an extramarital affair with accused one and is now in custody in his home country Mozambique for a separate matter, killed the late Ntinga.
