Several serious accidents on Zululand roads

Emergency services kept busy as wet weekend sees carnage on region's roads

Wet weather may have contributed to the region’s road carnage over the weekend, as emergency services were kept busy throughout.

On Friday, a truck’s trailer overturned on the John Ross highway near the banana stand, causing major delays for Richards Bay-bound traffic, with one person injured and stabilised on scene.

On Saturday, on the N2 near Engen garage on the northbound carriageway just outside Empangeni, a light delivery vehicle lost control and overturned onto its roof, leaving two people with minor injuries.

Later on Saturday, three people were treated for serious injuries on the N2 northbound carriageway between the R34/John Ross off-ramp and the R102, when two motor vehicles collided.

According to reports from the scene, one vehicle hit a puddle and lost control, resulting in a third vehicle losing control, causing a secondary accident.

On Sunday, two trucks collided with light motor vehicles at different scenes.

At the Eco Junction on the John Ross, a VW Polo hit the back of a truck, while a Nissan Sentra was on Sunday night hit by a truck, also on the R34 near Grass for Africa towards Nkwalini.

One person was taken to Ngwelezana Hospital in a critical condition.
