Single-mingling for over 50s

For many people over 50, dating can be daunting.

Whether divorced, widowed, or just single – it’s tough to put yourself out there.

However, one advantage at this stage of life is knowing what you want, which makes finding like-minded people that much easier.

Hoping to create this space is one Zululand woman who is launching a discreet social club for people over 50, called ‘Single 2 Mingle’.

Inspired by her own experience of losing a partner a few years ago, she decided to take action.

“Male or female, there’s nowhere our age group can go, especially for ladies, to feel safe and comfortable,” said the founder, who asked to remain anonymous.

“The whole idea is it’s a fun, safe and relaxed place for people my age to meet. It’s not necessarily a dating club, it’s about friendship – just to meet somebody your own age with similar interests,” she said.

While the club is still in its early stages, some singles have already signed up.

The first monthly meeting will be a cheese and wine evening in Richards Bay later this month.

Future monthly meet-ups will have different themes, such as quiz night, and will progress naturally with the group’s wishes.
