High risk of load-shedding, warns Eskom

Power utility, Eskom has issued an alert, warning of the high possibility of load-shedding

Eskom has this evening (Monday) issued an alert, warning of the high possibility of impending load-shedding at short notice.

This after six generation units were taken offline over the last 12 hours.

The generation unit breakdowns have placed severe strain on the power system, necessitating the use of emergency reserves, said the power utility.

“If an additional 800MW is lost, Eskom will be compelled to implement stage 2 load-shedding at short notice,” said Eskom.

“Efforts are under way to return seven generation units to service between the evening peak [on Monday] and Tuesday evening.”

Eskom said further updates would be provided at 10pm if not earlier.
