WATCH: Madukwini area closely monitored after protest action

Strike action intensified on Sunday night, leading to protesters stoning vehicles and fighting with police

Police continue to patrol eMadukwini area in eSikhaleni following a fiery protest over lack of electricity in the area over the weekend.

Residents who have not had electricity from 16 March took their grievances to the streets in search for answers, burning tyres and other materials to prevent residents and motorists from passing through the main road.

The situation escalated on Sunday night as protesters began stoning cars and fought with police.

Police are still deployed in the area in case of any criminal activities that might occur, and to protect residents.
