Protesting residents claim police brutality
Police refute allegations of terrorising Dube Village residents

DUBE Village residents wounded when police diffused an angry crowd with rubber bullets at a community protest in eSikhaleni on Monday believe they were purposely targeted.
While residents claim police followed them into their homes and shot at them inside their yards, King Cetshwayo Cluster spokesperson Captain Siyanda Shangase said there has been no reports of such incidents.

“Our police are well trained on how to diffuse crowds and will not follow people home because their task is to attend to a scene,” he said.
After being without electricity from 28 December, residents took matters to the streets where they burnt tyres and other debris at the eDepho traffic intersection.
They blocked roads and prevented motorists from entering or exiting the township, coming face-to-face with police.
Police are still on high alert in the area to ensure the safety of residents.
